Growing up in Delaware, I never saw an eagle in our state.  But those birds are lucky, that Rachel Carson&#039;s book &quot;Silent Spring&quot; spurred the banning of the pesticide DDT, in the early &#039;70s.  And the Feds passed the Endangered Species Act in the same era.  What a thrill now, to see our national symbol soaring above us, right here at home.

From the looks of that tree in your photo, it&#039;s a tulip poplar, the tallest hardwood in the North American forest.  It&#039;s a soaring perch from which the feathered pair can easily survey their domain.
