snow goose dinner

An immature red-tailed hawk has a claw full of snow goose feathers most likely from a recent meal on the salt marsh at Prime Hook National Wildlife refuge.

I really admire your bird photos! They are wonderful closeups, crisp and sharp and the colors are very bright.
What camera do you use? What lens? How do you do it? So many questions….
    Best regards,
    Mike

    Hi Mike,

Thanks for watching WildDelaware.com. I use a Nikon D300 with a 600mm f4 lens for the bird photographs. I also have a 200-400mm f4 but the 600mm is the workhorse for wildlife. The secret to great color and light is to shoot within an hour after sunrise and an hour before sunset. That’s really the only good light of the day. As for the close-ups, you just have to get close. Even with a 600mm you have to find a way to get close.

    Thanks, Kevin
