Bumble Bees and Carpenter Bees are our only native social bees. Here, a common Eastern Bumble Bee is a busy bee indeed as it gathers nectar from a field thistle on the grounds of Winterthur today.

    Great bee photo! I always admire your creative composition in your photos.
    I shot a very unusual bumblebee that I had never seen before in Olympia WA recently, the Tricolor Bumblebee, that has a bright red band on it’s abdomen.

    Interestingly, the day was so cool (about 50 degrees) that afternoon, so all the bees were just sitting on the flowers, waiting to have their photo taken!
